The human auditory system is most sensitive to sound between 1000 and 4000 Hz with the sensitivity decreasing as we move higher or lower in frequency. The reasons for this differential sensitivity across frequencies relate to acoustical and mechanical characteristics of various components of the auditory system. This difference in sensitivity across frequencies is more that just a curiousity or interesting piece of trivia.
